Our Counselors

The Camp Playland pools were designed to teach young campers.  The three heated swimming pools range in depth from one foot to ten and a half feet.  We evaluate a camper's swimming and place each child in one of five teaching stations according to ability.  Each swim station is led by a lifeguard / instructor. Group counselors change into swim suits with the campers and the group counselors assist with life guarding and instruction.  There are over twenty staff members assisting at the pool at any given period.

Every group swims twice daily.  Children receive a short lesson in the morning, sandwiched around two free swims and again in the afternoon.  Short lessons, twice a day, result in tremendous progress over the course of the summer.

Safety is of paramount importance.  Safety checks are conducted several times during the swim period.  Because the pools are the appropriate depth for a child's ability, flotation devises are not needed.

Enjoying time at the pool is critical to a successful summer.  The Playland staff prides itself on being nurturing and supportive.  No one is ever forced to swim.  We work hard to achieve success at the pools.

The youngest campers also swim twice daily.  They enjoy one swim in the one to two foot shallow pool and then receive a lesson in the two foot instructional pool.  Once a child is able to fully submerge, they will be swimming.

At the end of a child's summer they are given a Camp Playland Swim Progress Card.
