Coronavirus & Camp

Posted below are all email updates to our families related to COVID-19.

UPDATE 5/18/2020

We are excited that Camp Playland will officially open for summer 2020.  This summer is a partnership between government agencies, Camp Playland and parents.  We are making difficult decisions in an attempt to keep campers and counselors safe.  Please carefully read our Covid-19 Protocols

  • Camp will operate with a four-week Session A from June 29th-July 24th and a three-week Session B from July 27th to August 14th.  You may choose either session.
  • Group size will be limited to ten campers per group.  We will enroll no more than 26 groups.
  • We are not able to offer transportation.
  • We will serve a boxed lunch with all disposable wrappings and utensils.
  • Please see updated rates here.

Together, with your help, we will create a healthy, fun and instructional summer.  This is our 64th summer in camping.  We take great pride in “getting it right.”  Our wonderful staff is hired.  Our beautiful grounds are ready.  Let’s get to it.  We are ready for the best summer ever.

Thank you,

Steve & Gary Bloom

UPDATE 5/05/2020

Hello Playland Families,

We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.  With warmer weather and the announcement that schools will not re-open, it is clear that summer is around the corner.

This afternoon Governor Lamont announced camps will be allowed to open beginning June 29th. All camps will have to adhere to strict state guidelines, which will be released on May 15th.

The health and safety of our campers and staff is most important.  After we receive guidance from the state we will communicate regarding Camp Playland’s summer plans, including operating dates and safety protocols.

Our hope is to work with you to create a safe, fun and enriching summer.  We are here to answer questions.

UPDATE 4/28/2020

Hello Playland Families,

We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.  We remain hopeful that we will have camp this summer.

All youth camps in CT are licensed by the Office of Early Childhood (OEC).  This past Friday the OEC held a conference call and let us know summer camps are “on Governor Lamont’s mind.”  We hope to have information from the state soon.  We are preparing safety protocols and diligently planning for all scenarios.

Camp Playland, with guidance from the state, will make a decision about the summer by May 31st.  You do not need to pay tuition balance until we are certain camp will happen.

We are thinking of you every day and want nothing more than a safe summer of fun! We are here to answer any questions.

Uncle Steve & Uncle Gary

*Please know that if we cancel part or all of camp due to the coronavirus, we will refund all tuition, including deposits, for any canceled period.

UPDATE 4/21/2020

Hello Playland Families,

We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.  All pieces are in place for a summer of fun at Camp Playland – wonderful campers, a fabulous staff and a beautiful campus! We are receiving guidance from the state and the American Camping Association and will keep you informed with up-to-date protocols and final directions.

The Summer 2020 ‘General Information Letter’ is now posted on the Camp Families portion of our website.  We will post group rosters, schedules, bus routes and the staff roster in early June.

We will need your camper’s current health form before camp begins.  We accept any health form dated after August 14th, 2017.  This can be the same health form you use for school.  If you have a returning camper, current health forms will roll over. Blank health forms can be found here

We are here to answer questions and hope to see you soon!

We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.  Thank you for the calls and emails expressing your support of Camp Playland.

We, like all of you, are closely monitoring Covid-19 news.  We have 75 days until camp and remain hopeful.  We will consider all options, such as a delayed opening or shortened season and hope to be able to provide your campers with the summer they deserve.  Of course the safety and health of your children is most important.

We are happy to work with you regarding your summer plans.  We have time.  We know this is not a simple situation.

We are here to answer any questions.  Please send regards from Camp Playland to your campers!

UPDATE 3/11/2020:

Hello Camp Playland Families,

We know schools and organizations are reacting to COVID-19.  We are monitoring the situation and planning as usual for a summer of fun and friendship at Camp Playland.

If we are forced to close camp due to the coronavirus we will refund camp tuition.  We do not anticipate this and hope that time is on the side of summer camps everywhere.
